RECURSOS

- DOTSUB: nos permite subtitular vídeos, click here

Mr. Quixote de la Stain?

Is Spanglish really an idioma? I certainly use it often. Especially when I cannot think of a word in English to describe what I think. I use it all the time in Spanish to say what I don't yet know how to say in that language. Because there are so many migrant populations in the U.S. that speak Spanish, we now have a new language: Spanglish. Here in Spain, this may seem like a joke but in the U.S. it is slowly becoming a real language that is spoken everyday. In a Mexican restaurant near my house in Denver, I often hear the phrase, "Uy, ese va a ser mi lunch!" or "tienes un lighter?".
A professor of language, Ilán Stavans, has even translated the Quixote into Spanglish. He claims that Spanglish will soon become a definable language. This is the first translation of a text into Spanglish. It contains sentences like: "In un placete de La Mancha of which nombre no quiero remembrearme, vivía, not so long ago, uno de esos gentlemen who always tienen una lanza in the rack, una buckler antigua, a skinny caballo y un grayhound para el chase." What do you think? Is this crazy or cool? Check out the whole first chapter on this website: http://www.cuadernoscervantes.com/art_40_quixote.html.
¡Que enjoy this página!

Is it possible to learn cooking?

Why not?. By cooking bread, you learn about a special type of fungus called "yeast" (levadura). And did you know that the world's largest living thing is not the whale but a fungus? Yes, a humble fungus. They can sometimes reach several kms. The yeast ferments the dough producing CO2 and this gas inflates the bread dough increasing it twice the volume.
In the Department of FQ we have adquired a cooking oven and we have tested it by cooking some tasty pizzas. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!

Dionaea muscipula

That's the scientific name of "Carnivorous plant" (meat-eating or flies-catcher). Last saturday I was at the Aracena's market and I bought this wondeful and exotic plant. In the past I had a "bonsai" but it dried snif, snif. Now I need a lot of flies for it. I'm willing to pay 1€/100 flies

Amanita Cesarea

The queen of mushrooms: Last Saturday I went out with some friends at the Sierra of Aracena. We were in a lovely town called Almonaster la Real. Our goal was to find Amanita Cesarea (a highly prized mushroom). The day was rainy and cold but that did not matter. In a cork oak forest we found a treasure. There were hundreds of beautiful specimens. They are orange-red. We caught almost 10 kg (and the marketprice now is about 36€/kg). In Huelva the Amanita is known as TANA. It is really a very nice and very tasty mushroom.
